In Apple We Trust
Apple was the best tech company in the World, because for a time, it took is responsibility for design decisions with utter seriousness.
Focus groups are not the best method of directing a company. I fear that Apple is being directed by those without vision. The issue with focus groups is that most people can think of incremental improvement, but few users can be creatively inventive. Steve Jobs was imbued with creativity and inventiveness, and he was obsessed with user experience and sales. It was the balance of these attributes that made him unique.
The iPhone 17 series has taken Apple again into a race for technological specs. The 17 Pro Max is a marvel. However, for the first time since Apple's expulsion of Jobs, Apple has declined into ignorance of the needs of most users; the needs that that most consumers do not realise they have.
iOS 26 is a failure. It is a failure of design, it is disjointed and it is a failure of consideration to users. We had something slicker than Android but this is the case no longer.
This is ominous. Apple will remain successful for now because it has huge market share and no real competitors. However, its pace ahead of other mobile manufacturers has been lost. We can no longer trust them to make good decisions for us. I can now start to believe the arrival of the succedent of Apple is imminent.
